The Debut Co. acknowledges that we work, live and play on traditional Indigenous territory today known as Calgary, also known as Moh-kins-tsis, Wîchispa Oyade, Otos-kwunee and Guts-ists’i – the land that has given so much to so many.
In the spirit of respect, reciprocity, and truth, we honour and acknowledge Moh’kinsstis, and the traditional Treaty 7 territory and practices of the Blackfoot confederacy: Siksika, Kainai, Piikani, as well as the Iyarhe Nakoda and Tsuut’ina nations.
We acknowledge that this territory is home to the Otipemisiwak Métis Government of the Métis Nation within Alberta District 6. Finally, we acknowledge all Nations – Indigenous and non – who honour and celebrate this territory.
We recognize that a land acknowledgement is a small way to bring awareness to the extensive generational damage done to Indigenous communities across Canada by colonial practices, ongoing inequitable policies, and systemic discrimination.
As an organization focused on driving equity, The Debut Co. is attentive to centering Indigenous voices and leadership wherever possible, and pushing for accountability and systemic change through individual actions and allyship, community support, the implementation of the Government of Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action, and the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
